This is our best-selling classic safari in Kenya. On this tour, you have the best chances to experience the Big 5 in Kenya. Starting with Masai Mara, where you can find at least four of the Big Five along with many other varieties and numbers of animals, you will move to Lake Nakuru (a 5-hour drive) on Day 3. Lake Nakuru offers good chances to spot rhinos and aquatic birds like flamingos.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Nairobi to Masai Mara
Your tour starts with a pick-up at 7:30 AM from your Nairobi hotel or Airport and a drive to Masai Mara. This drive will take 5 to 6.5 hours, with a scenic stopover at Great Rift Valley. Arrive in Masai Mara shortly after noon, check into your lodge/camp, have a hot lunch, and then depart for an afternoon game drive.
After the game drive, we head back to the lodge/camp to reach it by around 5:30 or 6:00 PM. We freshened up and enjoyed a freshly prepared dinner. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 2 – Masai Mara
Today’s itinerary is flexible. You can discuss the previous evening with your guide and plan today’s schedule.
You can have a relaxed breakfast, depart for full-day game drives around 9:00 AM with a packed lunch, and return to the lodge late afternoon around 6:00 PM. Or you can leave at 6:00 AM on an early morning game drive (This is the best time to see the animals and an excellent chance to witness hunt/kill). Later, return to accommodation for breakfast, relax, and depart on an afternoon game drive with a packed lunch. You will stop at a picnic spot for a packed lunch and later depart on a game drive until the park is closed. Around 6:00 PM, I returned to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3 – Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru
Around 10:00 AM, after a relaxed breakfast, check out and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, which is about a five-hour drive from Mara gate. Upon reaching the Nakuru lodge, check-in, have dinner, and relax for the day.
Day 4 – Lake Nakuru to Nairobi
After breakfast, we will take a packed lunch to Lake Nakuru National Park and go on game drives until around 2:00 PM. Then, we will proceed to Nairobi, arriving at your hotel or airport around 5:30 PM.
